We run a Circle model with no committees and all governors attend the FGB meetings, which are held seven times a year.  Parent Governors are elected.  Staff Governors, Local Authority Governors, Co-opted Governors and Foundation Governors are all appointed. 

The Governing body is responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the Head Teacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, the Governors set the school’s aims and policies.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one. Its key functions are:

• To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

• To ensure accountability for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.

• Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives.

• To oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure value for money.

• To support and challenge and undertake the role of ‘critical friend’.

They also carry out a number of other important duties, which include:

• Determining how the school’s budget is spent.

• The appointment of school leaders.

• Hearing appeals and grievances.

• Forming policy on the school’s curriculum and other activities.

• Setting standards for pupils’ behaviour and discipline.

• Making sure school buildings are welcoming and safe.

Edward Schryver - Chair and Co-opted Governor

I joined the Board of Governors in 2021 as a Parent Governor. I was inspired to join following a conversation at the school with the former Chair, Nick Fox, who made me realise I didn’t need extensive experience in education to still be of service to the school.

After a year as Parent Governor, I was nominated to take over as Chair after Nick decided to step down having served many successful years in post.

In my time as a Governor, I have become passionate about education and the welfare of children and staff alike. I have a particular interest in the leadership aspects that are required to run a successful school like Egerton. I enjoy working with the School Leadership Team and witnessing their strategy come to life for the delivery of the curriculum and the embedding of our Christian values. The belief that the school should ensure all children reach their potential is one I strongly support and witness every time I am in school.

Outside of my role with the Governing Board, I am a Group Commercial and Contracts Director for a construction firm and use my experience of business and financial leadership to support the school. I have 2 children at the school who have loved their time in Egerton, and it’s been great to see them thrive at the school.    

Beth Foxford - Vice Chair and Co-opted Governor

I joined the Board of Governors in 2022, having stepped down from the Egerton Preschool Committee, where I had served as Chair and then Secretary. 

I am very passionate about education, believing in the importance of getting it right from Early Years all the way through to the end of Secondary school. Having taught in secondary education for many years, I can bring a wide knowledge and understanding of education and SEND to the board, which can be used to challenge and strategically support the school. 

I really enjoy working with the staff and the children at the school, especially listening to pupil voice and the fantastic things they have to say! 

Jan Burgess - Foundation Governor

I joined the Board of Governors in December 2024, and also had previous experience some years ago as a teacher governor and then a parent governor.  I’ve welcomed the friendliness and support of the other governors and teaching staff at Egerton and the caring atmosphere throughout the school.

Through my experience with primary school children, first as a teacher, followed by Rainbow leader and Sunday School teacher, I have always held strongly to the belief in an all-inclusive and creative education.  More than ever in the unpredictable world we now live in, it should hold on to the values of a Christian-based environment, that shows these values in supporting each other and in the curriculum.

Sue Neame - Authority Governor

I joined the Board of Governors in 2022, having previously been a governor some time ago. I have spent most of my life in education, including teaching, advising, inspecting and training new teachers. Throughout my career of over 50 years, I have worked with all year groups, from Early Years through to A-level students and I have loved almost every minute. My strong belief is that children are individuals and their differing needs are the key to successful education. Early years are the most important and investment at this stage is particularly valuable. I appreciate the opportunity to spend time in a school with strong Christian values and where everyone matters.

Charlotte Cunningham - Co-opted Governor

I joined Egerton as a Governor in May 2026 with the aim of providing my support to our school and children, during the important early stages of their education. I believe that early education provides the foundations for a child’s confidence, character, and future development, and I am proud to play a part in helping the school community. 

As a Governor of a Christian school, I value the importance of faith, compassion, and respect. I’m committed to helping the school provide a nurturing environment where every child is valued, encouraged to reach their potential, and supported to grow. 

With a long career in property finance, my skill set has never crossed into education! But I’m really looking forward to being part of the governing board and giving back in whichever way I can. And what a lovely opportunity to be involved in a school like Egerton!

Sandra Marsh - Ex-officio Governor

I joined the Board of Governors in September 2022, following my appointment as Rector of Egerton Church. I have 15 years of experience in both Governor and Chair roles.  I also sit on the Diocesan Schools Committee.

I am very passionate about ensuring that children reach their full potential in life, not only educationally but also as a member of society. Having both a teaching and youth work background, I can bring my experience and knowledge to the board, which helps to challenge and strategically support the school.

I lead the school collective worship each Monday afternoon and have got to know the staff and children well, as they do me.
